Share of renewables globally to soar 7.5-fold by 2050, says Russian subsoil use agency

The energy sector will be ensured mainly by traditional fuel types in the short-and mid-term perspective, the head of the agency said.
The share of renewable sources of energy in the global energy balance will rise 7.5-fold by 2050 to 28%, though fossil fuel will remain prior in the global energy consumption, the head of Russia’s Federal Agency for Subsoil Management (Rosnedra) Evgeny Petrov said at the Atomexpo-2022 forum on Monday.
According to Petrov’s presentation, the share of renewables in the global energy balance will rise 7.5-fold by 2050 to 28%. The share of fossil fuel will drop from the current 84.4% to 64%, though oil and gas will still account for over half of the global energy consumption, reaching 51%.
"By 2050 the absolute increase in gas production will total 35% to the present moment. Oil will remain roughly at the same level, or slightly lower," he said.
The energy sector will be ensured mainly by traditional fuel types in the short-and mid-term perspective, the head of the agency said. "And only in the long-term the contribution of renewable sources of energy will be notable," he added.
