Minister of Economic Affairs Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will be meeting with Russian Minister of Industry and Trade, Denis Manturov to discuss on trade, economic and investment cooperation between Malaysia and Russia.

In a statement today, the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) said the minister will be leading the Malaysian delegation to the 1st Session of the Joint Russia-Malaysia Commission for Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation (JCESTC) in Moscow from Oct 1 to Oct 2, 2019.

Co-chaired by Mohamed Azmin and Manturov, the JCESTC will be discussing cooperation between Malaysia and Russia, particularly in the areas of aerospace, defense, information and communications technology, innovations and digital development, it added.

The discussions will determine the terms of reference, scope and areas of cooperation between both countries.

“The minister is scheduled to meet with Russian industry leaders and business community in a business forum on the same day, as part of an effort to facilitate trade and investment between both countries,” the MEA said.

It said that the inaugural meeting followed discussions between Mohamed Azmin and Manturov, on the sidelines of the 5th Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok in September.

MEA said Mohamed Azmin will also be hosting an engagement session with the Malaysia community based in Russia at the Malaysian embassy.

The Malaysian delegation will consist of senior officials from the MEA, Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Primary Industries, Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, as well as the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation.
