Russia offers to import hydrogen to Spain in future

According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, the European trend towards decarbonization of the EU economy gives additional opportunities to create innovative technological solutions.
Russia offered Spain to start purchasing Russian hydrogen in the future, said Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak following the results of the intergovernmental commission meeting with Spain on trade and economic cooperation on Friday.
"The European trend towards decarbonization of the EU economy gives Russia and Spain additional opportunities to create innovative technological solutions. Hydrogen energy is in the foreground here, according to which we propose to consider future export supplies of hydrogen from Russia to Spain," Novak said.
As he noted, the pandemic had a significant impact on the dynamics of trade between the countries, which by the end of 2020 decreased by 19% to $ 4.7 bln continuation of joint projects. We have prepared a list of priority product groups for which it is possible to significantly increase exports from Russia," Novak added. The co-chairmen of the commission noted the presence of significant potential for the further development of cooperation between the two countries in the field of transport, tourism, mechanical engineering, space, energy, food industry, aviation, as well as in the field of small and medium-sized businesses. As a result of the meeting, the Russia and Spain signed a strategy for the development of long-term bilateral relations in economy and investment.
Russia can become one of the world leaders not only in terms of hydrogen supplies, but also in the field of technologies for hydrogen energy, said earlier Novak. He noted that at present several dozen companies are engaged in hydrogen technologies in Russia. The biggest ones are Gazprom, Rosatom, Novatek, Rostec, Rusnano.
