Several foreign carmakers confirm plans to resume operation in Russia — minister
It was also noted that a lot of foreign trade enterprises that suspended their activities in Russia did not submit applications for a complete withdrawal from the Russian market.
Several foreign carmakers have already confirmed their intention to resume the operation of their plants in Russia, Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov told reporters on Tuesday.
"We are still in dialogue with all major brands. With some of them we have a clear understanding that they will keep production capacities and continue supplying components to our market," he said.
"We may have to say goodbye to someone, unfortunately, because we can't wait forever," he added.
The minister said he expects that in late March-early April he will be able to "find a middle ground" with the companies and start making plans for the further development of their enterprises in Russia.
"This applies not only to the automotive industry, but to all industrial enterprises where foreign owners are now in thought or have already made some decisions for themselves, but have not yet announced them, in order to prevent long downtime and logistical restructuring to other components, to other brands, perhaps," the minister added.
On March 21, the Renault Moscow Automobile Plant resumed operation.
Manturov also noted that a lot of foreign trade enterprises that suspended their activities in Russia did not submit applications for a complete withdrawal from the Russian market.
"To date, these trade enterprises have not yet informed us about their decisions. There are economic operators who have suspended their activities for various reasons," he said.
The main reasons for the suspension of work, according to Manturov, are logistical problems. At the same time, companies continue to pay wages to employees.
