Russia’s coal production rises by 0.4% to 437 mln tons in 2022

The output of hard coal of all types decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to 348 mln metric tons.
Russia’s coal output in 2022 reached 437 mln metric tons, which is 0.4% more than in 2021, the Russian State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said on Wednesday.
The output of hard coal of all types decreased by 3.6% year-on-year to 348 mln metric tons, while the production of anthracite decreased by 3.5% to 24.4 mln metric tons, coking coal - increased by 4.5 % to 105 mln metric tons, and other hard coal - fell by 7.1% to 218 mln metric tons. At the same time, brown coal production amounted to 89.4 mln metric tons, which is 19.7% more than a year earlier.
In December 2022, Russia’s total coal production increased by 11.2% to 43.3 mln metric tons. Thus, the production of hard coal of all types increased by 8% to 33.4 mln metric tons, coking coal - by 2.4% to 9.8 mln metric tons, other hard coal - by 13.4% to 21.6 mln metric tons, while anthracite production decreased by 13.3% to 2 mln metric tons.
