On November 24, 2020, the Kremlin hosted a ceremony where Ambassador Balachandran Tarman of Malaysia presented her credentials to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.
In his speech to diplomats, Vladimir Putin said the following about the development of relations with Malaysia.
"We are interested in further promoting the political dialogue and strengthening trade and economic cooperation with Malaysia. Last week, as you know, I had to participate in the summit of the Asia-Pacific economic cooperation forum, which was chaired by your country. Despite the difficulties associated with the pandemic, the Malaysian partners have really done a lot of work and prepared a solid package of final documents for approval by the leaders, including a joint statement on the long-term development goals of APEC until 2040.»
